The importance of paint colors – consistency, ingredients and matching
November 14, 2018
When deciding to paint your home the options are endless, there are a trillion colors out there and dozed of different types of paint. However, before you go picking out colors and painting walls, perhaps it is important to do your research and know a thing or two about the paint you’re gong to be putting on your walls and how much paint you should be purchasing. Things like clear polyurethane and gloss varnish may sound confusing so let’s take a step back and break it all down before you go picking out paint colors and throwing it onto the wall.
Why do I need wall primer?
The purpose of wall primer is to cover all imperfections within your walls. It places a plain even coat on your walls so that when you are ready to add the true color to your walls it covers in the same way that it would the walls that are perfect without blemishes. A wall primer makes it easier for the paint to stick to the walls and for the colors to actually hold. If you’re worried that the paint is not going to stay in all parts of your walls, especially those parts that have been repaired, then a primer will even your surfaces and assure you that they are all the same. Another benefit of wall primer is to cover and block all odors and stains. Priming walls can benefit you in your painting endeavors.
What is varnish?
Wall varnish is a quick drying glass that goes over painted walls. It makes it so that your walls will not yellow or lose its color, it also makes it so that painted walls are easier to clean and that walls that are painted a dark color do not pick up any light hues that may change the color you have so carefully picked out to paint your walls.
What is clear polyurethane?
Clear polyurethane is not to be used on walls. Clear polyurethane is not the same as a wall primer. Instead, this is used for sealing floors and other forms of wooden finishes. Clear polyurethane locks in the wood and makes it so that you can use it for actual surfaces, it makes a beautiful finish shine on your hardwood surfaces. Again, not for your walls though.
Why is latex in paint?
Some paints have latex in them. Not everyone is allergic to latex but for those who are this is something that you should look into and void when possible. Latex was once used in paint because it was the rubber in a form of resin. Nowadays, most paints have substituted out the materials that once used to make latex paints. If you or someone you know has an allergy be sure to check the key ingredients within paint for your walls.
What colors are best for main rooms?
Trying to find a color pallet can be difficult. A natural color pallet might be best for your living quarters. In 2017 an interior design survey said that most homeowners wished that they had picked a natural coloring for their walls. Before you can regret all of the color you put into your home, make sure that you’re carefully choosing what you’re going to be looking at for quite awhile.
While you’re out there making the difficult decisions you can for your home, be sure you’re keeping in mind that these walls are something that you’re going to be living with for quite awhile. Remember any allergies that may effect your painting (such as latex allergies) and to vent all windows and doors so that you are not breathing in the toxic fumes. (Also as a side note if you’re redecorating a bathroom and have any plans of setting at any point – they say that bathrooms that are blue sell far faster on the market than any other color.) Keep in mind all of these precautions when you’re painting your home so that you can enjoy the after effects of your comfortable and happy home.
