Understanding Air Conditioning Unit Maintenance For Your Home
February 5, 2018
It may only be February, but many of us are already wishing for the heat of summer. The barbeques, pool parties, hiking and fishing trips are just some of the ways that people get out and enjoy the amazing season. One thing to be sure of, though, is that when you do come back home after all of your outdoor adventures, your air conditioning unit is working the right way. The last thing any of us want is to spend a day in the outdoor heat only to come home and realize that our air conditioning is out and we cannot cool off. Here are a few things to remember this summer about reliable ac repair:
1. Timing – The first thing to consider when it comes to reliable ac repair and maintenance is timing. Typically, air filters need to be changed out every one to three months to continue to work as they are intended to. That time period changes, however, depending on a few different variables. For instance, does anyone in your home have an allergy? If so, you may want to change your filter every 20-45 days. Another variable to consider is how many pets you have in the home. If you have a dog or a cat then you would want to change your filter every 60 days.
2. Lifespan – Another item to think about when making sure that your ac unit is ready for summer is the lifespan of the appliance. On average, air conditioning units will last between 10 and 15 years. One of the benefits of hiring an hvac specialist to install a new unit is that they will be able to go over this with you so that you are prepared and have ample time to budget when your unit is nearing the end of its life. If you recently moved into a new home and are unsure of when the ac unit was last replaced, you may want to contact a local air conditioning company to come out and take a look.
3. Efficiency – One of the reasons that reliable ac repair is so important is because if your unit is working efficiently it should be saving your some money! In fact, properly sealing and insulating ducts can improve the efficiency of your air conditioning system by up to 20 percent. Consider the cost savings you will have if you are improving efficiency that much every single month. Some municipal utilities even offer rebates or bill credits if you purchase a highly efficient unit.
The next time you are thinking about where to go for reliable ac repair remember to consider your timing, the lifespan of your current or new unit, and the efficiency that you want to improve upon. With these things in mind you’ll be sure to have a system you can trust in place by the time the summer heat rolls in.
